MEDIC
PROGRAM
In
1992, Harrison was the first Ambulance Corps to provide our residents
with an Advanced Life Support " Fly Car" system on an as available
basis provided by Abbey Richmond. From 1992 until 1999 we contracted
with a few commercial agencies to provide a Paramedic and a fly-car,
24 hours a day 7 day's a week to respond from our headquarters with
the ambulance crew.
In June 1999, we became a self -sufficient Advanced Life Support provider.
We now currently provide the community with our own in house Paramedic
Service. With a staff of 20 per-diem paramedics, we are able to run
our ALS system 24/7. All of our equipment is state of the art and as
new equipment becomes available it is introduced into our system, to
be able to provide the best and highest level of patient care to the
community. Every paramedic must have 3 years of 9-1-1 experience in
a busy system, be Hudson Valley Mac'd, ACLS and PALS certified. This
is a standard, which is not enforced by many agencies in our area.
In March
2001, due to the increase in Emergency call volume, this has forced
us to put on a second full-time paramedic during the daytime hours of
0800-1800 hrs. We now provide 2 ALS ambulances for the first time in
Harrison's history.
